Rwanda experienced one of the worst periods in Human History in the 20th century; the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. However, in one of the most remarkable turnarounds ever witnessed, the country was able to stop the Genocide, reconciled, recovered and paved way to sustainable peace and development.
Meet and greet with our driver and guide at your residence hotel ahead of your immersive day experience to Bugesera region; in the South East of the capital Kigali. After a short briefing, drive for about less an hour to the famed Ntarama Genocide Memorial. At this former Catholic Church, approximately 5000 victims perished in and out of the church; converted into a Genocide Memorial since April 1995. You’ll be toured different sections of the church and its compound along the local onsite facilitator. Later, proceed to the Reconciliation village to witness first-hand how Genocide survivors, Genocide perpetrators and returnees live side by side, in the same village. You will hear their touching stories, ask questions and interact with them. End your day with a get together party, sharing a drink and snack with your host community. By leaving this village, you’ll have attested that keeping aside hatred and divisionism and rather promoting peace, unity and reconciliation is well possible in a post-conflict nation. When this excursion is concluded, return to Kigali. Drop-off to your residence. END OF THE TOUR!
