Akagera National Park is located in the Eastern part of Rwanda, covering an area of approximately 1,200 square kilometres. It is named after the Akagera River, which flows along its eastern boundary. The park is a unique blend of savannah plains, rolling hills, lakes and swamps, creating a diverse ecosystem that supports a wide range of wildlife.
Home to numerous other fascinating animals, you might come across Elephants, Lions, Rhios, Zebras, Giraffes, Impalas, Waterbucks, Topis, and Warthogs grazing in the open grasslands. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 500 bird species, including the iconic fish eagle, herons, ibises, and kingfishers.
