The package includes hotel pickup and drop-off, the Mount Bisoke hiking permit, private transport, fuel, a driver-guide, lunch, bottled water and local handling charges. Personal expenses, insurance, gratuities and unlisted meals or drinks are excluded.

The hike usually takes around six to seven hours, including the descent. It is non-technical but physically demanding due to steep slopes, high altitude, mud and slippery trails, so a reasonable fitness level is recommended.

June to mid-September generally offers the best hiking conditions, with drier and easier trails. The hike is available year-round, but rainy periods can bring more mud, slippery paths and reduced visibility.

Wear waterproof hiking boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt and a rain jacket. Gaiters, gloves and a walking stick are useful, along with drinking water, snacks, sun protection and waterproof protection for electronics.

The minimum age for hiking Mount Bisoke in Volcanoes National Park is 15 years, and groups are limited to 16 hikers per day. Swimming in the crater lake is not permitted, and visitors must follow their guide and park regulations throughout the hike.

The price of a Mount Bisoke hiking permit depends on the visitor’s residency status. For foreign non-residents, the permit costs US$75 per person and includes park entry, a ranger guide and a pre-hike briefing by experienced personnel at the Volcanoes National Park office.
