The tour starts with a 4:30AM early morning drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park, followed by registration and a ranger briefing at Kinigi. Visitors then trek through the forest to find golden monkeys and spend up to one hour observing and photographing them before returning for lunch and the drive back to Kigali.

The trek involves walking through mountain and bamboo-forest terrain that can be wet, muddy or uneven. A reasonable fitness level and comfortable hiking shoes are recommended, as the distance varies depending on the monkeys’ movements.
