Acquiring Permits for Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is conducted mostly in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park than Mgahinga National Park. because of the inconsistency of the Nyakagezi gorilla family in Mgahinga. Uganda gorilla permit cost US $ 600 per person for a one time usage. The permits are allocated to whoever wishes to visit the park for gorilla trekking adventures. On a single day, nearly 96 permits are issued out to visit the 12 gorilla families in the park. It should be noted that only 8 people are allowed to see a particular gorilla family. It is highly advisable to book gorilla permits in advance especially during the high season due to the scarcity and high demands from travellers who visit the park on a daily basis.

How to reach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The park lies in the south-western corner of Uganda, 540km from Kampala. The journey takes 8 hours, excluding rest stops, passing via Kabale and Kisoro. The 80km section between Kabale and Kisoro is a winding, mountainous drive on murram that takes at least 2 hours, while the park gate at Ntebeko lies a bumpy 14km (30 minutes) south of Kisoro. Charter flights can be arranged from Entebbe or Kampala (Kajjansi) to Kisoro airstrip.
